New SEI Board Member and Our Social Media Focus
We’ve officially added another board member and have turned our attention toward having a stronger social media Street Epistemology presence.
9 March 2021
Greetings fellow Street Epistemology aficionados! A few quick updates for you:
- Now that things are humming along, we’ve purchased a one-year license for budgeting software to help us manage our expenditures. This software should help give us better visibility into our inflows and outflows. This information will also be helpful for independent auditors to assess our overall organizational health, often a requirement for the grant writing process.
- Our team is close to releasing one of the modules that make up the self-directed SE Course (about 22 modules in total!) to the SE Community for review and beta testing. Module 7: Building and Maintaining Rapport is nearly complete, thanks to the dedicated members of our project’s Core Team. Each module will include sub-optimal and optimal dialogues, instructional text, do’s and don’ts, knowledge checks, and references. We’ve nearly broken our brains putting this one pilot module together, and I’m hopeful qualified people will step up to help us write the remaining modules. I have a high degree of confidence that the SE Course is going to be an incredible resource for years to come—if we have the people. You can learn more about the project and our needs here.
- At our recent meeting we discussed the need to find someone capable of managing our social media activities. As you may be aware, SEI maintains several social media platforms to help promote Street Epistemology. To date, the task of keeping these active has fallen on myself, board members, and a few other volunteers. Despite our best intentions, we’ve only scratched the surface with what we can do on social media, so we have begun the process of identifying all the tasks we need to have covered. Afterwards, we’ll see if a dedicated person can be hired as a contractor to manage these for us, or if it makes more sense to outsource this to a business that specializes in this area. If you know of someone who might be a good fit for this role, please have them email [email protected] with their résumé.
- Finally, I’m proud to announce that Linda Mokko has joined the SEI Board as Secretary. Linda currently lives in England and has been involved in the SE community for years. Originally born in Finland, Linda grew up in Australia and speaks multiple languages. We’re incredibly fortunate to have Linda on our team. Among other responsibilities, Linda will be heading an effort to develop a short video to greet people who are new to Street Epistemology when they arrive at our website, YouTube channel, and other social media landing points.
That’s about it for now. I’m getting back to work. As always, thanks for your continued support—you have my word that your funds are being used wisely to help promote SE.
P.S. I’m particularly excited to be giving a presentation to Center for Inquiry this evening (Tuesday, March 9, 2021 7:00pm – 8:00pm EST) called Tools for Non-Confrontational Discussions. It’s not too late to sign up for it if you haven’t already. The talk will likely be recorded and available after if you miss it.
Best regards,
Anthony Magnabosco
