Here’s a summary of updates for Street Epistemology International:
Business Conference
Two weeks ago I had the absolute pleasure of being invited to speak at a conference centered around stoicism in Athens, Greece. The event was hosted by the exclusive and influential Young Presidents Organization along with The Aurelius Foundation, a group that works with global businesses to enhance business strategy through Stoicism. I found my hosts, attendees, and other speakers to be incredibly kind, knowledgeable, inquisitive, and supportive. My talk happened to occur in none other than the original site of Plato’s Academy, where his and other great minds once roamed.
How surreal to be presenting and demonstrating Street Epistemology to nearly 100 wealthy international business professionals and then watching many of them grasp the concepts and the potential of the approach within their own companies. Famous sports legends, actors, authors, government dignitaries, and academics were also present, leading to a diverse audience, almost all who were new to Street Epistemology. One fella was already familiar with my work and was a big proponent of SE, adding to my quite welcomed feeling.
If we ever hold a conference for SE I think Athens would be my first recommendation. Its rich history is foundational to the mindsets and behaviors that serve SE practitioners and of course the similarities to Socratic inquiry are noteworthy. Would you attend something like that? You can see pictures and some video clips of my trip on my public Facebook page.
Corporate Pitch
Earlier this week I was invited to present Street Epistemology to a multinational corporation with over 150k employees as a possible solution for a cross-departmental initiative and beyond. I’m incredibly grateful to my French SE colleagues for making the introduction and working with you in the future. SEI has long held the goal of developing instructor-led training programs along with a rigorous assessment program for those interested in becoming well-paid certified SE trainers. We anticipate much interest in Street Epistemology from business and other sectors, so if you would like to assist us in this regard, please email [email protected] with your background. We’ll likely be hiring SE instructors in the foreseeable future.
Research
Discussions with an experienced researcher continue, and we’re now sketching out a potential methodology to objectively study a specific aspect of Street Epistemology. Once we get further along we’ll likely ask the SE community to help us spread the word about the study in order to find participants. We’re always open to having other aspects of SE examined scientifically, so if that’s of particular interest to you, please contact us.
Donor Appreciation
I reached out to all the folks who have donated to Street Epistemology over the years on Patreon or PayPal to see if they would be interested in hanging out with me and members of the SEI Board before the end of this year. Folks who indicated interest will soon be invited to attend one of several recorded yet private zoom meeting times in early December. If all goes well, we’ll probably make this an annual event and hope to be able to accommodate everyone regardless of your time zone.
Community Survey
We’ve started building out a list of questions to include on a survey so we can better understand our community and their needs. More on how you can complete and share coming soon.
Affiliate Links
SEI has been approved for Amazon Associates, an affiliate program which allows us to create links so that a portion of your Amazon purchase will be paid to our organization. This is a great way to create some additional income for our ventures, so look for those links on our website, social media, videos, and more soon for you to click and even share on your own platforms if you feel so inclined.
It’s been an incredible month for our organization and SE in general. We’re also making considerable progress on the self-directed SE course that will serve as the basis for a whole slew of training aids and other fun ways to learn and utilize the approach. If you haven’t already, now is still a great time to make a donation to Street Epistemology International.
Best regards,
