Street Epistemology for the Long Haul
Street Epistemology is seeing steady growth and we are working to maintain the momentum.
6 July 2020
Hello everyone. I hope you are all doing well and staying safe.
Can you believe it’s been just over one year since we started Street Epistemology International? At our most recent Board meeting last night I was voted in again as Executive Director of SEI, a role that I am grateful to have. We are also looking for new Board members, so if that is something that interests you, please reach out to me directly and I can get you in touch with the others.
It’s been remarkable to see people from around the world practicing, studying, developing, and using Street Epistemology on all the various SE communities out there. If I had to guess, I’d say there are at least 50,000 people across the world who are not only familiar with SE, but have occasionally used it to one degree or the other. That’s amazing to me.
I’ve also noticed many people are taking the initiative and creating their own SE study groups, clubs, and resources materials. I think this is great, and needs to be encouraged. If you are aware of something SE-related that needs a signal boost, let us know so we can take a look. It seems to me like SE from the start has always been about people realizing its potential and then introducing the method to others. Even though we formed this non-profit organization, it is my hope that that grass-roots spirit which drives SE never changes — I think it’s one of SE’s biggest strengths!
I expect to have my “vision statement” complete for SEI by the end of this week so that we can make that available to people interested in funding our organization through grants. Once we communicate our vision and start receiving funding, we can form teams to develop course materials and conduct a study to test the effectiveness of SE.
Don’t forget that we do have funds available to help you promote SE to others! Just fill out this form and we’ll see if there’s a way we can help you (thanks to our wonderful donors).
On a personal note, I’ve been sitting on several talks that just need to be edited and uploaded to my YouTube channel. Keep an eye out for a four-part “pre-methodological” series of talks with the same person, recorded before social distancing mandates. I’m planning to time the release of these four videos after my discussion with David McRaney of the ‘You Are Not So Smart’ podcast drops, so please watch for that in the coming weeks.
Even though we may not publicly communicate all that frequently, we have a strong commitment to moving SE into mainstream awareness and use. Most of which would probably not happen were it not for your continued trust and support. Thank you for that.
Best regards,
Anthony Magnabosco
Executive Director, Street Epistemology International
