Thereā€™s a Lot Going on in Street Epistemology!

Thereā€™s a Lot Going on in Street Epistemology!

Thereā€™s been a noticeable uptick in activities for Street Epistemology International, including the possible development of an SE-adjacent film, and weā€™re excited to share these with you here.

4 November 2020

Itā€™s been an exciting month of Street Epistemology-related efforts, many of which could not happen without your continued financial support (thank you).

First, weā€™ve received and approved another funding request from a member of the SE community for equipment and other items that will help facilitate the recording and distribution of outdoor chats. Weā€™re open to considering all sorts of endeavors from around the world that can bring this approach to others. If you could use funding, please consider reaching out to us.

Our volunteer-led project to develop a course to learn Street Epistemology is progressing nicely. Project Managers have begun interviewing Core Team applicants and we expect to begin asking for topics to include in the course from members of the SE community in the coming week or so. There has been great enthusiasm for this project in particularā€”and rightly so!

Weā€™ve started looking into software that will allow a few trusted individuals who consistently generate content to make posts directly to the SE Facebook Page and SE Twitter account. This should streamline things for the SEI Board and help amplify voices from the community.

In addition to managing video playlists for the SE YouTube Channel, weā€™ve tried to make the episode selection process for the Street Epistemology Podcast more interactive by moving our discussion to a channel in one of the SE Discord Servers called #se-podcast. If you think a particular SE-related discussion might be a good fit for the show, feel free to make the suggestion in the channel #se-videos-and-links. Weā€™re also planning to give the SE Podcast intro and outro bumpers a bit of an overhaul, so listen for that in the coming weeks!

Street Epistemology as a solution to difficult conversations may make a notable appearance in a proposed film called ā€˜When in Doubtā€™. Based on a few trailers and speaking with those involved, it seems a film like this could bring SE to the attention of a great deal more people. As a result, the SEI Board voted and contributed a $1,000 donation toward its production. Weā€™ll keep a close eye on things to see if the film warrants further SEI contribution.

In addition to showing our two new provisional board members around, weā€™ve renewed our effort to find and receive grants, and even spoke with a neuroscientist who has expressed an interest in conducting a formal brain study based on Street Epistemology conversations. More on these exciting developments are likely to follow.

As you can probably see, we have a lot of things going on right now. But Iā€™ve never been more convinced that we are heading in the right direction with regards to improving and spreading SE to others. If youā€™d like to boost your contribution or share our progress with others, please head to the SEI Website now to see a variety of donation options.

Best regards,

Anthony Magnabosco
