SE Folks Needed to Achieve Big Initiatives
Several important initiatives are in the works and people who frequent Street Epistemology communities will be needed to help make those a success.

Here’s a summary of updates for Street Epistemology International:
Corporate Training
Our pitch to introduce Street Epistemology to a large multinational corporation has been successful and we now need several French and English speaking volunteers to help us fine-tune the workshop before we implement it with our client. As courses like this become more commonplace, we’ll likely be contracting with people who want to become paid SE instructors or develop other ways to expand our reach into this area. Email [email protected] if you are interested in helping us.
Scientific Research
We found an experienced and published scientist who wants to study certain aspects of Street Epistemology and has started the design phase. Once complete, we will ask those familiar with SE to help promote the study so we can run as many people as possible through it. We’ll likely collect far more data than we have time to study in this first project, which suggests many more studies could follow from this one effort.
Self-Directed Course
If you’ve been following my updates you may have noticed that we’ve been taking a long time to develop the self-directed course so we’ve decided to scale back some of the components within each module to speed the writing of the instructional text. The task of developing a comprehensive course on Street Epistemology requires a deep understanding of the underlying theory before one can explain the practice, and that requires a lot of time. I hope to have the first third of the course available to the public before the end of 2023 and expect the subsequent modules to be developed more quickly as we continue to seek efficiencies. We should be ready to begin testing ‘Module 2: Why Use Street Epistemology?’ with volunteers in the coming weeks.
Community Survey
We’re planning to develop a survey to better understand the SE community in the first quarter of 2023. We’ll do our best to develop something concise yet comprehensive but will need others to propagate the survey so we can collect a large number of results. If you have experience constructing surveys or know someone who does, please let us know. This survey could be the start of a regular polling of the SE community and we’re excited to see and publish the results. More on this soon.
Video Update
We’ve started to experiment with a video version of this written monthly update in an effort to improve the reach of our communication efforts. The video is going to be very different than what many might be expecting, but I think it finds a good balance between keeping things light while communicating some very important things. We’ll post our monthly update videos to this playlist on the SEI YouTube channel. We won’t reply to video comments there but encourage people to email [email protected] if they have any questions or feedback.
Donor Appreciation
Almost 15 percent of those who donated to SEI over the past few years have indicated their interest in attending one of four online video hangouts we have scheduled for December 3 and 4. These donor appreciation events will be held at various times to accommodate people from around the world. Me and members of the SEI board will be present to share our progress and hear your ideas. If you have never made a donation to Street Epistemology International now would be a good time. If these go well we might do them every year.
I’ll be in Washington DC to meet up with people interested in improving digital discourse and have time for dinner with a few SE-friendly folks on Monday, December 5. Contact me soon if that’s of interest to you and I can provide you with more details.
Best regards,
Anthony Magnabosco
